SATsReady Children's Data Handling Policy

SATsReady is designed to help parents and carers support children preparing for Key Stage 2 SATs.

We recognise that children's information deserves particular protection. This policy explains specifically how SATsReady handles information relating to children.

1. We minimise the information we collect

SATsReady does not require a child's:

• name;

• age;

• date of birth;

• school;

• year group;

• home address;

• telephone number;

• email address.

A child's activity is associated with the parent's SATsReady account rather than with a child's name.

2. What information about a child's learning is stored?

When a child completes SATsReady practice or mock tests, the service may store:

• the questions they attempted;

• the answers they selected;

• whether answers were correct;

• time taken;

• scores and percentages;

• performance by subject and skill;

• areas identified as needing further practice;

• recommended targeted practice.

This information is used to provide the educational service.

3. Why do we use this information?

The information allows SATsReady to do more than simply provide random questions.

For example, if a child repeatedly struggles with a particular skill, SATsReady can identify that area and recommend targeted practice.

This is intended to support learning and improve preparation for SATs.

4. No advertising profiling

SATsReady does not use children's assessment information for:

• advertising;

• behavioural advertising;

• selling information to advertisers;

• creating marketing profiles about children.

The assessment information is used to provide and improve the educational experience.

5. No significant automated decisions

SATsReady does not use a child's performance information to make significant decisions about them.

A weak-area recommendation is simply a recommendation for further practice within SATsReady. It does not affect school admission, school placement, employment, financial services, healthcare or any other significant area of the child's life.

6. AI question generation

SATsReady uses AI-assisted question generation.

The AI question-generation process receives information about the educational question that needs to be generated, such as the subject, skill and difficulty.

It does not receive:

• the child's name;

• the parent's email address;

• the child's answers;

• the child's scores;

• the child's performance history;

• the child's weak areas;

• other identifying information about the child.

AI-generated questions are stored in the shared SATsReady question bank rather than being stored as a child's personal profile.

7. Access to children's information

Child assessment information is linked to the parent's SATsReady account.

User-specific assessment records are protected by access controls so that an ordinary authenticated user can access their own records rather than another user's assessment history.

8. Parents and carers

SATsReady is designed around the parent or carer account.

Parents and carers should not enter unnecessary identifying information about their child into SATsReady.

9. Data retention and deletion

SATsReady currently does not have an automatic deletion period for assessment history.

10. Our approach

Our approach is based on:

• data minimisation;

• using children's information only for the educational service;

• avoiding unnecessary identification of children;

• avoiding advertising based on children's information;

• limiting access to user-specific assessment information;

• being transparent with parents and carers about how information is used.
